Gifford Brown, 76, Teakean
     
Teakean - Gifford Brown, a native of Clearwater County, died about 10 a.m. Wednesday at Clearwater Valley Hospital at Orofino of cancer.
     
Brown, 76, had spent all but two years of his life in the Teakean area. Although the mailing address is Route 1, Lenore, the town of Teakean is in the Southwick-Cavendish area northwest of Orofino.
     
Brown was born Feb. 14, 1906 at Teakean, the son of William and Jennie B. Brown. When he was a child the family moved to Myrtle Creek, Ore., and remained there for two years before returning to Teakean to homestead.
     
Brown married Leah Martin, May 5, 1928, at Lewiston. Ill health forced him into semi-retirement in 1965.
He was a member of the Evergreen Grange.
     
Surviving in addition to his wife at the family home are a son, William E. Brown of Teakean; three daughters, Arlene Turri of Santa Maria, Calif., Viola Lane of Clarkston and Mary Ann Alderman of Spokane; six sisters, Myrtle Powell of Lewiston, Opal Goin and Eunice Mathews of Port Angeles, Wash., Kathryn McWatty of Seattle, Anna Bloom of Clarkston and Mayme Nurmie of Waha; 14 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. A brother preceded him in death.
     
The funeral will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday at Gilbert Funeral Chapel at Orofino. Burial will be at noon at Normal Hill cemetery at Lewiston.
